What is edward galvin?

Edward Galvin (1882-1956) was an Irish missionary and founder of the Missionary Society of St. Columban, also known as the Columban Fathers. He was born in County Cork, Ireland and educated at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, before being ordained as a priest in 1909.

In 1917, Galvin founded the Maynooth Mission to China, which later became the Missionary Society of St. Columban. He led the society's first mission to China in 1920, and established the Columban Fathers as a dedicated missionary force. The society's mission work expanded to other countries throughout Asia, including the Philippines, Korea, and Japan.

Galvin was known for his focus on the spiritual and cultural development of the people he served, rather than just attempting to convert them to Christianity. He encouraged the integration of local customs and traditions into Catholic liturgy, and held a deep respect for the native cultures he encountered.

Galvin remained active in the society until his death in 1956, and is remembered as a pioneer in the field of Catholic mission work. Today, the Columban Fathers continue their work in mission countries worldwide.
